The Texas Beef Council (TBC) is a non-profit organization charged with the promotion and marketing of beef and beef products. As a very busy organization, they came to White Lion with a request to make their lives easier. They wanted the ability to manage and update their site on the fly, without needing to know how to code or having to work in a cumbersome content management system. Their initial CMS had functionality and usability limitations on how they could build pages, search, filter, and add content; it was time for a site that worked for their specific needs. As with most organizations, they simply didn’t want to feel like they needed to be a developer in order to make updates to their site. Based on their needs, White Lion was able to leverage tools in WordPress to build a new site which allows for easier and more intuitive content management updates.
To give The Texas Beef Council as much control as possible, we wanted every image and piece of content on the site to be administrable. White Lion created custom page templates and custom fields based on the type of content that would be needed for easy, intuitive manageability, while maintaining total design integrity of the site.
Easily Adding New Content
One of the main needs was to easily add new pages of content to the site. Using custom post types White Lion was able to create easily managed pages on the back-end, while providing intuitive sort and search on the front-end.
The Recipe Grid
The Recipe Central section of the site features a complex custom post type and custom taxonomies for “Meal Types” and “Cooking Methods.” Users can filter recipes based on the custom taxonomies for advanced, relevancy-based searching. The masonry grid layout on the front-end was paired with a hybrid infinite-scroll loading technique to load more recipes as the user nears the bottom of the page.
The Page Builder
Texas Beef requested the ability to add more pages with multiple types of content sections in varying orders. To accommodate this level of flexibility, White Lion implemented a page builder that allows for creating and building a new page from various predetermined content sections, ranging from a simple text editor to an image grid.
“We’ve had a great experience working with White Lion to implement solutions that are important to consumers and our stakeholders,” said Rachel Chou, Senior Manager of Consumer Communications. “The benefit of increased flexibility in content editing and creation has been one of the most valuable assets. Our website is beautiful and we are able to consistently add new content and optimize our current solution to better communicate our messages.”
As the home page of the site says “No one knows comfort food like Texas.” Being based in Austin ourselves, White Lion tends to agree. And we like to think that no one knows websites like White Lion.
