The Lion takes top honors in awards competition

We are very proud to spread the word about one of our recent new website launches having won Best In class in the Interactive Media Awards competition.

The Texas Co-op Power Magazine won in the Magazine category with a composite score of 489 out of 500 points, which is tallied between scores in design, content, functionality, usability, and Web standards compliance.

The Best in Class award is the highest honor bestowed by the Interactive Media Awards.  It represents the very best in planning, execution and overall professionalism.

Happy Earth Day!

It’s Earth Day, and the celebration for the planet got the team here at White Lion thinking about what we do to stay green. Turns out, we’re not doing too shabby as it is! Here are some of the big steps we’ve taken to conserve energy, reduce waste, and keep our carbon footprint at a minimum:

We’ve been using Balcones Shred for 4 years, and during this time we’ve recycled approximately 4,975 lbs of paper. As a result, the following resources have been conserved:

>  42 Trees
>  945 Gallons of Oil
>  17,412 Gallons of Water
>  11,940 Kilowatt Hours of Energy
>  249 Cubic Yards of Landfill Space

By using a water filtration system instead of bottled water, we don’t use approximately 6,500 plastic bottles a year. That’s 250 work days times 1 bottle of water per employee with 18 employees, plus an estimate of about 2,000 clients or vendors in the door for meetings. In fact, we could probably assume everyone would drink 2 bottles of water a day, which would make that 12,500 plastic bottles. That’s a lot of landfill space we’re not taking up!

We use compact fluorescent bulbs, which use 75% less energy than standard incandescent bulbs and last 10 times longer, creating less waste and conserving energy.

Our thermostat is programmed to only use energy from 6:30am to 6:30pm. When no one is in the office it is set for 55 in the winter and 78 in the summer. We also have heat reducing coverings on sun facing windows to reduce the need for the AC to cool down the building. According to the U.S. Department of Energy, the proper use of a programmable thermostat can cut heating and cooling energy anywhere from 5-20%.

Not only do we have flex hours to reduce the number of people driving in rush hour, we have 2 employees who carpool with their families to work, one employee who walks to work and another who takes the bus.

We are a member of the city’s Green Choice program which receives energy from wind turbines located in West Texas.

We recycle EVERYTHING that is recyclable (yay for Austin’s single stream recycling).

Happy Earth Day from the White Lion Team!

Are you part of The Crowd?

Robyn Hadley, founder of The Capitol Crowd, wants you to be a part of The Crowd, so she redesigned her site to help you connect with your lawmakers, state agents, lobbyists and hundreds more. It’s a place to connect with the who’s who of Austin!

Using the latest technology, White Lion built a clean and user-friendly interface and dynamic search database where members can easily search for anyone under the dome and find out where they worked before being elected, or when their birthday is or what their special interests are.

And what’s more, is that we built an easy-to-use Account Profile to help members keep their stats updated, tweet under the Capitol Crowd’s news page, and advertise on the site as well!

Capitol Crowd has 900 members; they boast an average of 6.5 page views per visitor and have welcomed 19 new members since launch last month!
